I see my art as part of a tradition of abstract based artwork. Ancient and primitive cultures have used abstract relations to great effect. Throughout time subject matter has been stylized for the feelings it has created. I think the power of visual art; it is fair to say comes from the design of abstract parts more than the subject itself. Early twentieth century art was largely influenced by the art of ancient and primitive cultures. My work shows the influence of both the modernists and the art of other cultures such as Cycladic art.
My main concern is that a significant experience is stimulated from the composition. I am interested in carving natural materials such as stone and wood. My subjects are usually figurative; human or animal. I am interested in how to stylize these subjects into self sufficient works of art. I like pure abstract work but I prefer my work to do two things; create a subject that is also a living visual composition.
