Artist Statement
BiographyOver the last ten years I have exhibited work in a range of media; pastel, graphite, lino-cut and oil paint. I concentrate now on oil paintings. I exhibited for many years in Newcastle where I studied but now exhibit in Sydney.
My main interest is design. I spend a lot of time developing the formal relationships in my work. The arrangement of colours, tones, and shapes to create an image of significance with a rhythm that captivates the viewer is my primary concern.
My subject matter mainly concerns the figure in an environment, usually urban. I am interested in subject matter which is drawn from objects from the every day landscape. The trees, houses and natural environment of Grafton have been a great inspiration.
My work has been reviewed as work that doesn’t comment on globalization but on global isolation. The figures are disconnected they usually stand alone and when in a group they face in different directions or are separated from each other. They are disconnected from our society, culture and the land itself.
